He turns up now as the owner of the celebrated Naami gold mine in Australia, which is estimated to be worth $100,000,000. Mr. McDonald studied law, but failing to succeed in that profession devoted himself to speculation and the study of minerals. The London correspondent of the New York Sun, who takes a kindly interest in Mr. Gladstone and the Liberal party in Britain, isthe author of the following paragraph ; ‘Yesterday (Saturday) for a little recreation the Grand Old Man drove over to the new village library, where he remained for five hours cataloguing the volumes as a labor of love.
