week, wanted something done about
freight rates on joint land and water
systems, such as that lending to the
Yukon. Mr.. Lefurgey made the same
point concerning the double railway
and intermediate boats leading to
points in Prince Edward Island. In
the winter the government owned
'all the three systems and the charges
'were much higher than for similar
_distances on the mainland routes.
*For instance, the freight on grain
from Montreal to Halifax, 852 miles.
i_is 9 cents per hundred pounds. From
Charlottetown to nn outward point,
1,200 miles oil, the rate is 40 cents.
The rate from Charlottetown to
Picton, 70 miles,»is higher than from
Montreal to Halifax, twelve times as
far. This injustice ought to re-
