Electric heating is becoming the vog- ue, and the strides that lave been ta- ken in this application of electricity within the last few months point to the probability that there wil soon be but litle use for steam in the heating of public and private buildings. There has been such a sudden rush for elec- tric radiators in London that the stocks ef the manufacturers have run dry. The story goes that the credit for this in- telligent appreciation on the part of the British public belongs to an American theatrical manager in London. It was a cold winter’s day; the theatre had to be heated by night, and the steam e@pparatus usually relied upon had got- ten out of order. In despair the man- azer ran to an_ electrician, who piaced a portable electric radi- ator on each side of the auditorium. The making of a connection with the mains was a simple matter, and in halt an hour after the current was turned on, the theatre was filled with balmy air that, while just of the right temperature, was untainted by the smell of the pipes. The convenience of the arrangement ‘was apparent, as the radiators could easily be run from one place to another, and slipped entirety out of the way the moment they were not wanted. Their economy was equally beyond question, OF 3 vr LOL r tkly , for they would heat the largest theatre | 704.07 TH more quickly than any other for a whole evening for about $3. The | ee audience was delighted, for if there is | | anything the British playgoer dislikes more than As a Flesh Restorer, another, it is an overheat- ’ 5 . ed playhorse, and with the ciectric | Puttner’s Emulsion has no equal, radiator th: stifling and unwhglesome ar heat so common wher steam is used givirg substance and tone to the is impossible. The new departure made a hit, and in a few days nearly all the principal theatre and music hall man- agers in London wee considering the isability of adopting electric heat- ing for.their buildings. It does away entirely with any fear of fire near the stage or elsewhere. It maintains a comfortable and even temperature, and requires no attention. There is no fur. nace to burn out and no rusting or wear- ing out during long pericds of disuse, as in the old system ; no special attention is required, and any of the theatre at- tendants can turn the current on or off as desired. Small electric radiators are now being introduced into this country fro private houses, and wherever cur- rent is available there is no excuse for the excessive and unhealthy tempera- ture to which many people have become accustomed from the employment of the less easily regulated systems of steam and furnace heating.—New York Times, wasted muscles. ANOTABLE FXCEPION, A Strong Feeling in Favor of a Canadian Product inthe State of New York. Srracusr, N. Y. June 10—In spite of a strong sentiment prevailing throughout this state that nothing good can come out of Canada, a feeling is beginning to grow that there are certain notable exceptions and among them is classed the new speci— fic remedy for all diseases of the kidneys and all complaints arising from a derange- ment of those organs, known as Dodd’s Kidney Pills. The medicine has recived a thorough test and is being prescribed not only by druggists but by physicians whose well known reluctance to admit any virtue in proprietary medicine makes their testi- mony to its merits still more remarkable. Nor a Carnoric.— The St. Andrew’s Beacon says: “Grand Master Kelly, of the Orange order, tells a good story at his own expense. Going intoa certain place he was introduced to a devout Catholic, who invited him to mass. ‘But I am not a Catholic, said the imperturbab!s James. ‘Not a Catholic, and your name is Kelly was the astonishing rejoinder. Then con- tinuing he said: ‘Ah yes, I see how it came about. Atthe time of the Irish faminine, there were some North of Ire land Kelleys who turned from their faith in order to get food; you must have come from that stock.’ ” Science Triumphant at Last.. Miller’s Emulsion of Cod Liver Oil is the outcome of the latest scientific re- searches. There was always a_ prejudice against taking Cod Liver Oil on account of its di agreeable taste, but Miiler’s Emul- sion is agreeable to the palate, and that is one reason why it has become so poyular with the medical fraternity, the hospitals of the country and the householde wherever consumption ur lung troubles prevail.
