It is s rare honor to receive these medals from the hands of our future King, and this honor is easily Q accessible to the men of the oontingonts _ whose homes are in the Mainland Pro- vlnces. The Duke in passing will visit all the principal centres there. ` Now nothing is clearer than that all the Canadians who served in the war should be treated with equal consideration. Ao the Duke is not coming to Prince Edward our boys should' have been aforded the opportunity to meet him at some point in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia where ` they could have received their medals in the same manner as_their brother soldiers from the other Provinces, We regret to learn that an application to Ottawa for, transportation to St. John on the Govern- ment Railway proved unsuccessful, _the answer being that there are no funds especially set apart for such a purpose. We think the federal Government haaa clear duty in the matter, and hops their declsion may be reconsider-ed.Fsiling that it would be a graceful act on the part of the provincial Administration to soo that our boys are not compelled to go to St. John or Halifax wholly at their own charges. lt is by no fault of theirs that the Duke is not coming to this Province. gi-‘any-b France places the greatest possible reliance upon submarine torpedo-boats and is rapidly building craft of that sort. At the same time the British Admirality is cautiously experimenting with them while the United States Naval Board dually decided unanimously _sgsinst them. The prejudice in the Anglo-Saxon nations is partly an ua- belief in the eiliciency of the submarine boats and partly because they are regard - ed as skulking, treacherous engines of destruction unworthy of the traditions and spirit of the naval service. Lumbermen in New Brunswick are having serious trouble from the fast that so many ofthe drives have been hung up because of unprecedented low water lin the streams. On the St. John River alone 15 million feet are hung up above (fraud Falls and 25 million feet below the Falls, being about one-third ofthe total out in that section. Il. will involve a heavy financial strain’ to carry this amount over for perhaps another year, while the mills are idle and their employees have to seek other work.
