The speaker pictured a scent in a Cape Breton town, of a boy be ing crushed and bruised to death by an electric car. He told of the grief- stricken and broken-hearted parents of'tlie awful darkness that came intl their lives because of the loss of their only boy. Do you know, said thi speaker. that on Prince Edward Is land there are scores of boys who are being crushed and broken and bruised beneath the jaggernaut of in teniperance. Many a parent to-night is grief-strickien because their boy is being broken on the wheel and thcrl ‘seems to be no help for them. I-If then \vent.on to emphasize the need of a strong co-operative movement to drive this fiend from our midst. Rev; L. Haslam was called and when he responded he said how glad be was that he had come, and to once more look into their faces and urge them to he on the right side, to stand for truth, to do right, to fill up their life with God was his message. Af ter Mr. Haslam's address several of thd men of the community made short speeches and proposed a vote of thanks to Rev. Mr. Wilson. Thir was carried unanimously and Mr. Wilson replied thanking them for their kindness. The singing of the Nstlonal Anthem brought s delight- ful meeting to a close, all declaring that they must meet soon again. :Tho Romans and Greeks of the Classic Age used olive oil for anoint- ing, for bathing, for cooking and baking-it is a commodity with n hundred uses. IMMIGRANT FARMERS.- With re-. gard to the scheme of introducing immigrant farmers from the Old country to this Island that Capt. G. E. Thomas and Mr. G. A. Richardson are carrying out, the former has just written an interesting letter to Mr. J. E. B. McCready, the Publicity Agent, regarding the progress of the project. He states: “I may say that things have not come up to our ex- .>eete.tions, but we shall bring out a party in September of 22 to 27 peo- rle. Five of them will take up farms. The remainder are farm iiands and gardeners, and one is a iutcher who intends going into the business ln the Island and hog-rais- IDE- We are in touch with, and have interviewed, 32 other farmers in dif- ferent parts of Great Britain. Most of these, I think, will come out in -YW Sllfiflgi but some are required to give a year's notice to their land- lords; and failing to do this, under the Lands Acts have to forfeit cer- :airl quantities of theiu crops and other penalties that the free and in- dependent farmers of P. E. Island mow nothing whatever of. Others have to give a montb's notice. These ire practically the reasons why we have not been as successful as we an- iclpated, but we have confidence of .irlngillg out a strong party in May." Phe province is greatly indebted to Japt.
