"The Jol- son story,” it was inevitable that almost the entire cast of the first film would appear in the second. Barbara Halo is starred with Parks in this new Jolson musical. as the wife who persuades the famous singer to return to show business because that is what he wants to do. Also new to the cast is Myron McCormick, as the motion picture executive re- sponsible for "The Jolson Story.' To insure complete authenticity. Columbia even used the same makeup expert; who had worked on "The Jolson Story." The San Fernando home which figured prominently in that picture also was duplicated in exact detail. The tunes include such mem- ory-evoking numbers as "I'm Look- ing Over a rbur-Leaf Glover". "Give My Regards to Broadway". "Pretty Baby". "Baby Face", "sonny Boy". "Atfter You've Gone". Considerable discussion t o o is place concerning promotion of pupils from Grade eight to Grade nine, who have failed to attain required pass mark in Group Ach- ievement Tests for Grade eight. In- eidentally, it was suggested that this pass mark be raised to at least 150. However, it was unani- mously declded that the matter of promotion be left to the dis- cretion of the teacher. The bulk of opinion regarding the high percentage of unsuccess- ful lD50 entrance candidates fav- ored the following apparent facts: ll) Unpreparedness of candidates to write examinations finalizing Grade ten requirements, and. (2) inability of candidates to read question papers of various sub- jects intelligently and comprehen- lively. It was also considered that mentally retarded pupils be given an opportunity to develop some hobby or talent which would give them a suitable place in society.
