Pernicious Anemia Now Curable (Canadian Press) BOSTON, Mass, Mar. ‘29- A new solution l7 times as powerful as liver and more than seven times as concentrated as any liver con- centrate now available for the treatment of pernicious anemia. has been developed by Dr. William P. Murphy. Dr. Murphy is a mem- ber of the Harvard Medical School Faculty and of the staff of the Pe- ter Bent Brigham Hospital. The new treatment ls described in an article by Dr. Murphy. wide- ly known for his work in connect- ion with the discovery first made in 1924 that liver was of value lrl treating the disease. Bo powerful ls the new solution, a highly concentrated liver extract, that often as few as two or three injections result in recovery, while nnprovement is evident within from 36 to 48 hours after the first injection. .The new solution with its high‘ concentration and purity can be injected into the muscles without subjecting the patient to the daily disoomforts of the needle. So pow- erful ls it that lntrs-muscular in- jections are necessary only at in- tervals of from one to three or more weeks. The dosage and fre- quency of infections must be de- termined according to the condit- ion of each patient by the physi- clan. The oost of the liver concentrate (or solution) to the patient ls said t'o be from 40 to 80 per cent. less than when liver of liver extract is, used by mouth. Another important; advantage attributed to the new‘ extract is that it can be used to replace blood transfusions in the. treatment of extremely ill pa-i tlents. . - EmlvscLfiIT-wiwr. ‘The regular monthly meeting of the Esrnscliffe Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Laura McIntils on Tuesday.
