The lot of $18,- 000 recently offered bear interest at 3% per cent. and are redeemable in thirty years. This is the first time that an attempt has been made to float P. E. Island debentures at less than 4 per cent., and there was doubt in some minds whether it was wise to name a lower rate than 4 at the present time. The result has, however, abundantly justified the de- cision reached. Tenders were receiv- ed from both Toronto and Halifax oifering to take the full amount at a fraction above par. The tender of Mr. McIntosh of Halifax was accept- ed, being slightly the higher. Notwithstanding the decline in the rate of interest in recent years this transaction shows that our provincial credit is well maintained.
