The Victoria Driving Club cams up with their biggest ice racing meet of the season to date when the largest entry of horses this season, 25 in all, turned out to compete in five classified even-ts over the North River course on Saturday afternoon. The meet wasn't only the big- gest, but also the keencsi, and hundreds of spectators were on hand to witness some thrilling duels over the quarter mile stretch of the lightning-fast ice speedway. Calumet Onward captured the Class A Pace, Buddy Budlong the Class A Trot, Mary's Delight the Class B Pace, Tony Budlong the Class C Pace and Orville B the Class D Trot. Through the courtesy of the Provincial Exhibition Association and Charlottetown Driving Park, the regular starting gate was used, which added greatly to the success of the meet, although some of the entries had to suffer the consequences of~ being set. back for "beating the gate." In the second heat of the B Pace, Bee Budlong placed first but was set back to sixth and Nature Boy who finished second was set back to seventh position. In the sec- ond heat of ‘the C Pace, Miss Adele W. finished first and was set back to sixth, while Bud Hugo finished sixth and was placed seventh. Lee Brewer and Direct Volo also had some bad luck in their racing with the former pulling a shoe in both the second and third heats of the Class A. Trot, while the latter also pulled a shoe in the second heat of the Class C Pace. and was drawn in the final heat. The following are the results of the meet:- Class A Pace Calumet Onward (Stead) .. World Ski Meel Ends (By Harold Claasssn) ASPEN, Colo, Feb. 19—(AP)— Zeno Colo, a hawk-nosed farmer from Italy, slammed down the lids of Mount Aspen at a speed of 53 miles an hour Saturday to win the men's downhill run, final event of the world ski championships. The squat Italian, who crouches so low he appears to be sitting on his skis, ripped through the 2.1-mile course that drops 2,400 feet in two minutes, 34.4 seconds. That was 1 3-10 seconds better than any other of the 58 starters from 13 countries could do. The daredevil from Italy has an un- official record of 100 miles an hour for a stretch of 220 yards. Earlier last week Colo won the giant slalom and took second to Georges Schneider of Switzerland in the slalom, a feat seldom dup- licated in world skiing. Yves Latrelila and Yvon Tsohe, both instructors at Sun Valley. Idaho, topped the Canadian en- trants, finishing 26th and Bth re- spectively. Latreliie, from Ste. Adele, Que., was clocked in 2:513, City Ban-tun hockey series and Tache, from Quebec City, in 2151.7.
