The fire was discovered abc ut three o’clock in a barn belonging to the Weldon House which was damaged. Fire was also discovered in a kitchen in Judge Landry's residence and other places, but was extinguished before much damage was done. Judge Fraser yesterday sentenced Sears for escaping from the penitentiary, to a year's additional imprisonment, and Staples, for the same offence, to six months’ ad ditional imprisonment. Bailey, for bigamy, was sentenced to two years; Lewis, for in- decent assault, to six months in jail and seven lashes, Cricket. Hairax, Aug. 5. The cricket match, Halifax against Ut- tawa, was won by the latter with sixteen runs. Ottawa's umpire gave several rank decis- ions, which it is claimed gave the match to Octawa. Embezzlement. Montreal, Aug. 5. Ugly rumors are afloat relative to to the Montreal Gas Company's affairs.
