I Montague Welfare League Reports Successful Year MONTAUUE WELFARE The annual meeting of the Mon- tague Community Welfare League was held at the Curling Rink with Mr. Charles MacLure. president. presiding. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read by the secret- ary, Mr. C. A. Shaw. and were approved as read. Mr. Shaw also read the financial statement. which showed ieceipts of 511397.88. ex- penditures of 10.83947. leaving I balance on hand of 31,057.01. Mr. Shaw explained that the large ro- ceipts was due from the receipt of 310,000.00 for the purpose of install- ing an artificial Ice plant in the icurling Rink. The ccnietcr sented by Mr. . W. Beck. Mr. Wilfred Wattarworth, rink manager, opened the rink this week in view of the seeming early winter. and began preparations foi' making ice. Flooding has been carried on for only two nights and one day. but already a firm base has been laid. and only the con- tinuation of cold weather is need- ed to put body on the ice. Should there be skating Satur- day this will be the earliest date for opening the Montague Rink since the early thirties. An early opening will mean not only a boon to the skating enthusiasts. but al- so to the hockey fans who will then see some of the big time hockey played here. At present the Montague Prim- roses are using the Sports Arena but it is understood that several games will be played in Montague this winter for the benefit of the home ctowd. Mr. Watterworth is also planning a hockey schedule for the sdhool children, and also for Intermedi- ate C hockey. so that this season promises to be an active one in the Montague Rink.
