Page 6 March 4, 2009 CAMPUS ~ PANTHER POST How did most UPEI students spend their spring break? Post contributor Shavado Gibson tells us what UPEI students kept busy with over Reading Week By Shavado Gibson Post Contributor At many Canadian universi-— ties, the spring break in late February or early March is called “reading week”, and ostensibly is intended to al- low students to catch up on their studies. However, during spring break, students eagerly spread out across the country and indeed the world, head- ing for new destinations and new experiences. Students travel to areas of tropical cli- mate, to get away from the cold weather. They want to enjoy the exquisite sun, sand and sea in places like The Bahamas (where I am from), Cuba, Jamaica and Florida. Here at UPEI, many stu- dents took advantage of the spring break and travelled back to their home province, or country, to have a fun and an exciting time with friends and family especially who they haven’t seen in a while. When asked Lily Ann Max- ham, a first year Biology student what she did for the spring break she replied, “I went to Montreal for a few days, to have some fun with friends and then I went home to Vermont to visit my fami- ly and friends.” Also, Hanna Waxer a second year nurs- ing student stated that she went to Winnipeg to visit her grandmother who she hasn’t seen in two years. She men- tioned that she had a really great time with her grand- mother. I thought that was really nice! Some students __ travelled to warmer countries to get away from the cold weather for a while. Vanessa Driscoll, a first year Arts student stated, “I went to the Dominican Republic just to get away from the cold.” She strongly added, “T am so sick of the cold.” Subsequently, she enjoyed the beautiful sun, sand and sea and relaxed on the beach drinking cocktails. On the other hand, quite a few students remained here on P.E.I. mostly because it was too expensive to travel or students just wanted to stay and study or they were ob- ligated to work. While here, some students took the time from their busy schedules to I’m pretty excited for it... I think it’s a great chance to bring theists and atheists together to see: different points. As for me, I stayed on PEI. I occupied myself with a few winter sports. I went ice skating, skiing, tubing and curling. : As a novice to all of these winter sports, I found them quite exciting and a fun ex- perience. However, I am sure that many students enjoyed their spring break whatever they decided do. By the enthusi- astic stories that some stu- dents shared with me, it was evident that many had quite an adventure and indeed a wonderful spring break. Yes, God exists! I don’t have much more to say. I don’t know why you wouldn’t.
