For once let the people speak their honest convic- tions as between candidates and between party policies. Remember that the right of the majority to rul°e under Canadian institutions is indisputable, sacred, and ought to be recognised by every good citizen. _ A pure election is best for the candi- dates, best for the parties concerned, in- iinitely best for the credit of the con~ stituency. ' ._;_ l l The directors of the St. John Exhibition Association have resolved to wind up its affairs. They find it impracticable to hold further exhibitions without the grant which the Government has declined to give. They point out that they have in nine years contributed $3,800 and their gratuitous services, and have paid out $35,440 in prizes while during the same time they have received from the Pro- vince treasury but $21,000. 'Ihey now ask from the Govcrnrnent and St. John City Council a suificie nt sum to pay off their liabilities and close up their business. This may be “only a bluff", as the say- enongh.
