Willis Van Devanter, the new assist- ant attorney general for the interior de- partment, is a successful lawyer and is 38 years old. He is a native of Indiana and a graduate of De Pauw university. Governor Lowndes of Maryland ad- mits that as a farmer he has been a complete failure. Baron de Coubertin, who was active in the revival of the new Olympian games, has started a society in Paris whose object is to spread the knowledge of French civilization and of French work in scholarship and science in the United States.
