Rev. Joseph A. O‘Sulllvan, Bishop of Charlottetown. Mrs. W. J. Ibrt Augustus, St. Theresa and Sum- merside were organized by mem. hers of this Sub-Division, while Indian River and Tlgnish Juniors were organized from Summerside and Alberton respectively. several other parishes are ready for the league and in the Spring we hope to do more along these lines. On Remembrance Day a, Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Basilica at our reqeust for those who lost their lives in the Great War. We endeavor, not only to provide e, maetlns place roi- them. but by personal contact to become their friends and advisers. Early in the year Miss Mona Wilson of the Red Cross gave them a very inter. 953mg course on home nursing, care of children and home making. This was greatly enjoyed, and the Practical knowledge gained has been used to good advantage in sev- eral reported instances. The girls meet every Thursday evening in the x. of c. Hall and conduct regular meetings in a very efllcient manner. A short program l! but on bringing out a. surprising amount of talent. At Christmas they had a‘ ‘beautifully decorated tree, adorned with presents for everyone, which were distributed by a real live Santa Claus. with funds which they raised at Card Dllrtlcs and from membership fees, they were able to help member-g in distress. A basketball team he, been formed by one group; another group is rehearsing a, short plgy, while others are interested in sew. lng. V_ You can easily see the advantage 0! Bl-lch e Club; of the invaluable Bld. l0 l! l0 lonely girls, for hgq-g they ‘become acquainted with other girls, and in the League find wo- men who are interested in their problems, and help them in their needs. ’ RBV- llllallsianor McDonald was the beloved Chaplain for many years and his departure was a dis- tinct loss Rev. Chas. McCarthy has been appointed in his place, and is doing much to keep up the same interest in the club. The Collegiate Club is another lllilloftllllt branch functioning und- er the supervision of the League, and a detail report of this will be given by the Convener of Edu- cation. A great dcal of time is devoted w these two Cluts, but it is time well spent and we give it gladly and wil- lingly, for we are amply repaid by the happiness and benefit it brings into the lives of others. Convenors reports will tell ‘you of other work accomplished, so it is not necessary to speak of it here. We continue to contribute to Na- tional Works, Scholarship and Sis- ters of Service. For the benefit of new members I would like to speak briefly on the work of the latter body. Its‘ action lics in the Home Mis- sion Fields oi Canada. In the West- ern Provinccs the Sisters leach Catechism and Schools in the rural and for which I thank you. During Inhibition week we serv- ccl hot meals in the Holy Name Club for three days. In January we served a hOt turkey dinner in the Holy Name Club, which was very successful l-and netted a. large amount. H"! districts, and conduct small hos- pitals. In the larger centres, they ~conduct hostels for overseas girls, meet boats at the ports of entry and assist Catholic Immigrants. In ‘Ibronto a settlemen house is maintained. Over 7,000 children in isolated districts are receiving Catechetical instruction. These les- sons are sent out in seventeen dil- ferent languages. Small districts are visited during the summer and children prepared for the Sacra- ments. Last year a Mission Van in charge cf two Sisters operated in Vancouver Island. Approximately 27,000 beds and 80.000 meals were supplied last year at the different hostels. I This is just a brief summary of the work of the Sisters of Service, but I know it will be of great in- terest to our members who are helping by their contributions to finance the great Missionary Order. From thousands of souls arises the cry for Spiritual aid» Let us widen our vision and deem it e privilege as well as a duty to assist this foremost of league endeavors. Regina Diocese and, as your Convener will report, the 1932 subscription of $200.00 to the social service, as well as $125 already paid on this year's quota. We celebrated the Feast of our Patron Lady of Good Counsel by having a High Mass sung. SOCIAL SERVICE REPORT Madam President and members: I beg to submit the following report: Since October this commit tcc assisted by members has been meeting once a week at the City Hospital to make new clothe and repair old clothing for the poor, and in this way is a direct help to the Social Service Department at the Hospital. Forty-five yards of shaker ilan- nel were donated by members and 229 articles of clothing were made and repaired, including many layettcs. Our members have been active in soliciting clothing from their friends, and in this way a large quantity has been received for the poor. Six’ members held bridge parties in their homes to augment the funds. Our pledge of $200 for 1932 has been paid and $135 towards 1033 quota. Since the inauguration of the Social Service Dept. in connection with the City Hospital we are re- lieved of much of the work of for- mer years. and our only duty now is to help with the finances and pre- pare clothing for distribution. Joy is a positive force of tho soul, being vital only when it can not, If we wish the ardor of joy to bc activr, we must train our young people to moderation and simplicity which are the salvation of joy. A Study Club has recently been formed with twelve members who have taken up the study of the l-loly Father's cncycllcal on "Christian Marriage“ and the liturgy of the church.
