His hands also were white; also other parts of his body. He said that until about seven years ago he was black all over, but at that time noticed his hands and face wero becoming white. Since then the change has been (gradually going on. You cannot imagine what a queer looking character he is.. His lips are thick and his hair has the regulstion curl, When he has his hat on, the black part of hia face looks like ashadow thrown by the rim of it. ienaenmemett “Tue hest presentation of Uncle Tom’s Cabia ever given in St, John” was the verdict of those who were present at the Opera House | last night, and the verdict was a correct one, The play has been seen here very often, but never with the attractions of leet night's per- formance. In the first place the audience was large enough to fill the house, and was an in- spiration to the actors, and secondly the ar- rangeinents of the company were all perfect and the parformers are ali first-class in their work, The acting of Kate Partington as Topsy, Mr. Wm. Curry as Uncle Tom, and Mr. J, W, Hartwell as Simon Legree was per- fect. Little Eva is a very attractive child and was much aimired. The ice scene, and the transformation scene both excelled. During the performance several specialists were intrc- duced which added greatiy to the interest of the evening. They consisted of the Quartette, Mandolin students and the Caliophonists. The comedians were xble at any time to provoke the risibilities of the audience, while the more sympathetic parts brought tears to many.— St. John Telegraph. . ANOTHER OFFER TO LEAD!
