The high standing of the Canadian produet isin marked con- trast to the inferior cheese of the United States. — Mr. Gladstone in the Nineteenth Century reviews the rise and progress of the plattorn since the Gordon Riots in 1780, and aisda deals with the relation of the platform to the press in the political field from the time of the Reform Bill of 1832 He believes the platform has been the stronger influence, but he says ‘let not the press tremble for its prerogatives. The platform, indeed, both displays and generates living energy. It quickens sympathy, besides inerea ing _ia- formation, ani it brings tu bear the whole power of fellowship in a canse.
