University Sued The University of Prince Edward Island is being sued after an employee was injured following a University staff party last year. Roy Lannigan, a former employee of the University, has filed a suit which claims for damages against the University after he Was struck ‘by -a. car Jast December. Mr. Lannigans claim states that on December 21, 1990 at a staff Christmas party, he was served liquor contrary to*the Liquor Control Act of PEI and that this caused and allowed him to become intoxicated to a point where his judgement was impaired and he was struck by a car while crossing the street. It goes on to state that the University is negligent having served liquor to an intoxicated person, failed to have an adequate trained bartender to Dear Editor, This past Wednesday, I found myself with some free time, and decided to put a couple of loads through the wash. After Mr. Lannigan left the party, he was struck by a car driven by Ms. Stephane Drake, who is also named in the suit, at the corner of Belvedere Avenue and Maple Avenue in Sherwood while he was trying to cross the road. Mr. Lannigan received head injuries, multiple leg fractures, a dislocated shoulder along with other minor cuts and scrapes.The claim states that Mr. lannigan suffered pain, loss of income, and loss of earning potential. aes The suit was filed ate the courthouse on November 21, 1991 and the University has 20 days after being notified by the sheriff to reply.
