THE DAILY EXAMINER. a eo MONDAY, AUGUST 15 es 1892 A Song of a Man of the World. My soul is sick with the ceaseless strife, The cruel mockery of life, The fickle, changeful, hollow hearts, Slaves to mammon, ali acting parts,-— Thus sang a man of the wozld. Oh, for a true and honest friend, i Oh, for a love that could never end, Oh. for a firm and honest grasp Of the hand in a true friendly clasp,— Thus sang the man of the world. Oh, for a smile without the sneer, Uh, for a laugh without the jeer, Oh, for a world free from deceit, Oh, for one soul that’s pure and sweet,— Thus sang the man of the world A voice from out the stillness came, That put the singer’s song to shame, Go thou and make thine own heart whole, Go cleanse thy sin-stained, spotted soul, And there'll be one in the world. —Carrie E. Emery. 2-0-8 Worse than Dynamite. Hard!y a month passes but we read of terrible explosions, aad loss of life from natural gas. Ove writer has raked up Chinese history, wherein it appears, that away back in the time when the famous Chinese wall was building, before the use of gas wells was dis- covered, a terrible explosion took place. The big wells in some way got the start of the little ones, so that enormous volumes of air was sucked down into those subteranean magazines, When the air reached certain proportions, the whole _thing went off like a leaky gasoline stove. The result was horrible in the destructiou of lives, The same writer predicts similar conditions underlying the great natural gas belt of this country, from Toledo, through Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky, whereby that whole vast region might be ripped up to the depth of 1500 feet, leaving a chasm for the waters of the great lakes to pour down into blotting ont every living human being in this now densly populated valley from the face of the That writer might easily have shown whole country earth. further, that throughout our not ouly in densely populated regions and cities, but in country and village houses as well, natural gases far more dangerous than is found in the lake regions, are carrying off not only ‘‘pig-tail” Chinamen, but our own fam- ilies and friends, durning the hot waves of July and August. ; Scores of people are dying daily from typhoid fever, diarrhoea, dysentery, cholera- morbus, and infaut summer complaiats; all caused by poisonous gases and ferments, far worse than hydrogen gus or dynamite in their explosions. Fortunately this latter danger ear all be averted, by the use of a simple old fashioned remedy, Johnson’s Anodyne Lini- ment, used internally, asexplained ina pam- phiet sent free to anyone, by I. 8S. Johnson & Co., Boston, Mass. Ne matter if you have used this remedy before, it will pay you to get a bottle and read the direction, or send for the pamphlet just to 'earn bow to use it economically. a2 d6i wii _— Local Notices.
