The deceased had been in failing health for quite along time; ever since the death of his partner in life eighteen months before, with whom he lived for over fifty years. those dearest to him could observe decline. Mr. Laird was devoted to his home and community and al- though he had not travelled far from his borne, he was always helpful when need arose, proving the saying "A friend in need is a friend indeed." Of a quiet retiring disposition, he was essentially a home person, finding his happiness in his family and during the latter years giving his entire time to the cares of his grandchildren who loved him and welcomed any opportunity to express their love. He was upright. klndheaiied and generous, his. home was always a. place of welcome to friends and neighbors. This esteem was well evidenced by the large number of friends who came to pay their final tribute of respect. o He leaves to mourn his posing one daughter with whom he lived- Mary Etta.
