LONDON, ren. 2s-'riie Times says' the Government last night submitted' definite proposals for the settlement of the coal strike and a definite an-l swer is expected to be given by both ' the,_mine. owners and the miners to- day. The British Miners' Federation’ af-- tcr n long stormy meeting this morn- . ing, passed B, resolution deciding to f continue negotiations with the own- ers which are proceeding under the auspices of the Government with a view of bringing about 5 settlement of the dispute. Some of the miners' delegates argl bent on war, especially the represen-| tatives of the collieries employed in South Wales, but the executive final- ly succeeded in inducing the meeting to make s. further efiort for peace. LONDON, Feb. _ 28-The Gov’t ad- mits its failure to settle the dispute between the mine owners and miners breaking out. The secretary formally observed the negotiations with official statement issued regarding the proposals sub- mitted. The government said to fix the cas- es of the underground miners who were unable to secure adequate rrmn- neration. The Government is prepared to con- fer with the parties concerned by dis- trict conferences. The proposals were considered in the afternoon with the result that those in the federated area including Yorkshire, Lancashire, Midlands and North Wales accepted. Durham and Cumberland employers accepted the proposals. They were rejected in Northumberland, Scotland, South Wales, also the forest of Dean, Somerset and Bristol. More than sixty percent of the coal trade of the countrv accepted the DF0- posaln. The miners Federation maintain there can be nosettlement of the dis- piite unless the principals of a mini- mum wage‘scale be adopted for all miners and for all underground work- crs. `(Ca.nndian Press.) . ‘ WASHIi\G'l‘0N, ' Feb, 28-The House Steel Trust Investigation Com- mission made public its report ofthe “pert employed to inquire into the books and minutes of the United States Steel Corporation.
