January 24, 1887, Granville Mills, Lot 21, The following is an account of i-ny ancestors on both mother and fatb- er’s side. As near as I can recollect my grandfather Henry came to this Island from Kentyre, Scotland, and was among the first that settled in Nlllpeque. his farm being on the east -side of King Street run or brook. His name was Donald and_ his wife's name wus .vlary McMullen. He had in family three sons and six daughters. My mother's father came to this Is- land in the Polly and settled in Mal- lpeque close by Neil Tay1or'g Pond, His name was l\lcQuillan and his wife’s name was Isabel Russell. They came from Elgin. In family he had two sons and five daughters. 'My grandmother had a brother who taught school in this Province in- the 17th century. Some of his pupils are still living, viz: 1-Ion. W. W. Lord, D. lil. Hooper of Charlottetown. His ‘name was Charles Russell. My fath- rr’s name was Alexander, and my niother's name Isabell. They settled and lived on a farm on the south- west branch of Darnley River and there lived and died. The farm is held and enjoyed by my two maiden sisters. My_father's family consisted of three sons and five daughters and their names were Charles, Edward, liougald and Isabell, Mary Barbara, Katherine and Flora. My father died on the 5th of September, 1868, aged 80 years. My mother died the Sth of April, 1869, aged 89 years. Man has peculiar fondness for dwelling on past events and he ia r.irely ever tired of narrsting those past events that are ,in any wav con- nected with the history of his own life. That school dis trict comprised Oyster Cove, Beach loint, Darnley-down as far as Wil- liam Donaldson‘s and all Malpeque. Our teachers were James Gillendar :ind Charles Fowler. Tuition fee was one pound for three months and find and cut _vour own firewood. .The first .\‘unday School was started in Malpe- que I think in 1827. The teachers were Miss Mary Stewart and Benj. Longworth, Diunis Reddin, John McGill, David Wilson, Nathan Davis, Daniel Brennan, James\Purdy, Samuel Nelson, Andrew and James Duncan, Patrick Walker, and Donald Lfeaton. The Chief Justice was Ed- ward Jarvis. John (‘. Sims was High Sheriff for the whole Province, Thom- rs H. Haviland, Colonial Secretary und Sir Robert Hodgson was Attorn- cy General.
