Both starting pitchers made way for relief hurlers in the ninth inning, Sim- mnns with none out, and Burke with two away. Simmons being caught and run down between third and home to end the game. Charlie Ryan's smart southpaw. Burke. pitched winning ball until his temporary relapse into wild- ness in the final inning. He gave up only six hits and struck out twelve. and although he did give up eleven free passes to first he kept them pretty well scattered until the ninth frame. The visitors banged out twelve safe hits in all. eleven off Simmons and one off Stewart. Filbert and Judd had a battle of their own for third with the latter getting the nod. Second Heat: It was Worthy Ermine again for her second straight win.
