S'side Kinsmen Rink Opened -The Summersldo Kinsmen: rink opened Christmas afternoon with a very large group of skat- en enjoying a good lheet of ice and favorable weather for youth's favorite winter pastime. Spirited music came over the sound sys- tem, adding to the enjoyment of the occasion. The skaters went on the ice at 2 p.m. and skated for about two and a half hours. IN MEMORIAM MB. SAMUEL DIJNNING Then passed peacefully away at his home in French River, P.E.l., on December 7, alter a brief ill- ness, Mr. Samuel Dunning a high- ly respected resident of that com- munlty. He was born in Clinton, 80 years ago and was a son of the late John Dunning and his wife Elizabeth Arthur. When a young man he learned the carpenicry trade and through- out his long life rarely spent an, idle day. He was a skilled and faithful workman, of a quiet and unassuming nature, and possessed of the highest integrity. he oc- cupied a high place in the affec- tion of all with whom he came in contact. In his early life he became a member oi the Method- ilt Church in Margate, and later the United Church in New Lon- don. where with his wife and family he lived for over forty years. The funeral service was held in Long River United Church and was conducted by Rev. S. H. Has- lam. assisted by Rev. D. A. Camp- bell of the Presbyterian Church, in New London. Mr. 1-laslam in his brief but comforting address paid tribute to the life of the de- ceased, not as one who in the race of life looked for acclaim from the crowd. but as one who kept his eye on the goal, the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. The large numbers of friends who gathered at the home and church were expressive of the high esteem in which ho was held. Arsenauit has joined the Canadian Army and is now stationed at Camp Borden, Ont. A whist party held recently at the home of Mrs. Aiyre Arsen- ault and sponsored by the lodies' of Altar Society. In st. Peter's Anglican Church the congregation united in a carol service at 11.30 pm. The communion service which began at midnight was conducted by the rector. Rev. J. R. Mciwlahnn. The church was beautifully dec- orated for the Christmas season. At. the Sacred Heart Church nud- night Mass was celebrated by Rev. W. E. M.OI18gI1au. Prior to the celebration of the Mass the choir sang a. number of carols. The choir sang the Mass in st. Basil. sain- lsis were Messrs. John Barrett and Albert Nocnan. A trio was sung by Misses Evelyn Kinch, Helen Barrett and Doris Hogan. At. the offerty the choir sang "Adezte Fldelm" and at the communion a violin solo, "O Holy Night." was rendered by Mr. Albert Noonan. The organist was Mrs. E. E. Larter. some fifteen patients spent Christmas Day in the Wcswrn Hos- pital. Arrangements were made by the Women's Institute for a group of caroliers to visit the hospital Thursday afternoon and their sing- ing, with Mrs. E. E. Larter as or- ganist. was much enjoyed Santa also visited the hospital and dis- tributed candy which had been made by members of the institute. The institute also rcmembercrl a number of elderly and shut-in folk at this season of good cheer. Sim- lliar treats were provided for many by the local sub-division of the C. W. L.
