A SUCCESSFUL SEANCE WITH THE PRINCE OF WALES. Mr. Stuart Cumberland was among the guests who accompanied the Prinve of Wales on July 19th on a visit to Baron Ferdinand Rothschild at Waddesdon. After dinner, at the de sire of the Prince of Wales, Mr. Cum- berland gave some illustrations of thought-reading. With the Prince, Mr. Cumberland was at once successful with an experiment, which consisted in find- ing 4 medal on the breast of Lord Airlie, unpinning it, and banding it to Lady Mandeville. Mr. Chaplin hid a pin in the coat of the Prince of Wales during Mr. Cumberland’s absence from the room in a moment Mr. Cumberland discovered and plucked out the pin. Lady Mande- ville’s test afforded much amusement to the company. Mr. Cumberland correct- ly interpreted her thought by taking up a biscuit and putting itin Mr. Chris- topher Sykes’s mouth. Mr. Cumberland was next successful in telling the num- ber of a note thought of by the Italian Ambassador, and indicating a pain from which Lord Castlereagh was suffering. A curious hunt, in which every one present heartily joined, after an uonam- ed object—a portrait of the Prince of Wales—in another part of the house, with Baron Rothschild aud the Italian | Ambassador as subjects, formed the next | demonstration. The next test was per formed with the Prince of Wales, who undertook to think of an animal which Mr. Cumberland should endeavour to} describe. de “I am no artist,” the Prince} said, “but T will do my best to think of | the way in which the animal should be drawn.” Mr. Cumberland took the| Prince by the hand, and in a few!) moments drew upon a piece of paper a | rough outlive of an elephant, which, it} turned out, was the animal thought of. | — -.
