The belief is that orders will shortly issue for a strike. This will involve thc suspension of work in fnany important industrial plants. TWENTY-FIYE DEAD _ BY TORNADO IN THE AMERICAN WEST KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 13- Tornadoes which swept parts of Mis- souri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkan- sas late yesterday afternoon and last night are known to have killed twen- ty-flvo persons, injured more than 100, rendered more~tha`n 500 home- lcss and to have done thousands of dollars worth of property damage. Of the dead, only twelve have been identified. The first tornado was reported at lllskridge, Kas., twenty-flve miles south of Topeka ut 4 o'clock yester- day afternoon. Here many houses were destroyed, and much damage done to crops. Tile storm which swept llfslridge struck Powhatan and Netawaka, Kas., nearby towns, then swept oil to the northwest striking Whiting, Kas., north of Topeka where sixty houses were demolished. Continuing to the northwest Hiawatha and Man- ville, Kas., were struck and here three persons were killed and much property damaged. A terrific tornado struck Lawrence, Kas., killing two persons, injuring twelve and doing damage estimated at $175,000. `This storm swept the town from the southwest to the northeast, and after passing over the Kansas river, continued towards Leavenworth. An hour alter the first tornado struck Eskridgc at5o'clock yesterday afternoon, a 'tornado swept through Oklahoma, parts of Arkansas and `Southwest Missouri. The climax came when John Doherty faintcd in the witness box during his examination by Peter White, crown counsel.
