Wheat receipts at the western elevators and platform loadings for the week ending November 25 amounted to 1,491,780 bushels com- pared with 9,319,945 in the previous week. During the corresponding week of 1931 the marketing was 5,231,386 bushels. _ Marketing of wheat in the first seventeen weeks of the crop year was as follows by provinces] the figures in brackets being those of a year ago: Manitoba 28,059,832 (18,'l93,829), Saskatchewan 136,669,- 296 $4,256,029), Alberta 87,595,055 02,012,218). No Decision To Repeal 1930 Legislation (Canadian Press) OTTAWA, Dec. 11.-The Canad- ian Governmsnt has made no de- cision to repeal the lsao legislation prohibiting clearances to vessels with cargoes of alcoholic beverages for "dry" countries. Neither has the question been before cabinet council so far for consideration. From well-informed official sour- ces this information came yesterday in connection with reports from the United States that the Canadian isw would be repealed. But the United States Congress might, automatically, nullify this legislation, in the opinion of rev- enue omcials. If Congress passed stronger beer or other alcoholic bc- verage legislation, revenue officials state, the Canadian act might be- come inoperative. This 1930 legis- lation, specifying no particular country, merely prohibits clearan- ces to vessels with cargoes of alcoh- olic beverages for countries into which importation is illegal by their laws. ii‘romaviewp°intoicoldcash.re- field. _ y "That report was unauthorized.” Mr. Bennett said. “Although I am I Public man I am entitled to the amenities of polite society and Ii decline to discuss my personal af- fairs. - i "Whether I shall, settle down in England is a matter I have not yet thought of,” he added, "and in any even; it is not a matter for dis- cussion in newspapers. When there is any statement to make on the subject I will make it.” As the boat train from Liverpool drew into Eustonstation Mr, Ben- nett ooruld be seen at the window smiling out at the crowd ot prom- inent men and members of the Govemment who had come to meet him. Lord I-lallsham, Secretary for War, and J. H. Thomas, Dominlons Secretary, climbed aboard the train and could be seen shaking hands with the Canadian Prime' Minister. Mr. Bennett stopped smil- ing only for about two minutes, while he drew Mr. Thomas asidei and engaged him in earnest con-_ versation which both accompanied. with animated gestures. As noi stepped to the platform Mr. Ben- nett posed for news photographers and submitted to an interview. He said he would not go in France as he had originally in- tended and would remain in this country only nine days. Mr. Ben- net; said he would see members of the United Kingdom Govemment on matters connected with the trade pact signed by Canada and| Great Britain at the Ottawa Eco- nomic Conference but declined to say what questions would be dis- cussed. ,_ He replied with an emphatic "no" to a question whether he had come here with an offer of Can- ada’s aid to the United Kingdom in the matter of its war debt to the United States. "The United Kingdom and Can- ada never interfere with each oth- er's responsibilities,” he said. When he was asked for his gen- eral view of the war deb; situation he replied "but they are not due yet. Besides we don‘t owe America anything. We are all right. I see no danger anywhere. The horizon is absolutely clear." striction of exportation to the United States means an annual loss of revenue to this country of 815,- 000,000 yearly. Bevel-al private members, who opposed the legisla- tion back in May, |930, have other reasons for the repeal of the law. C. G. Power (Lib, Quebec South) and B. C. Robinson (Con. Essex West) intend to ask Parliament for revocation. Before Parliament sd- journed last month for recess un- til January 30, their intentions were indicated to the House of commons.
