Hardly a church in Charleston is considered safe for occupation and the ministers of the differ- ent denominations have held their services in different public parks and in grounds adjoining the churches. Government tents have being erected where fullattention will be given to sanitary requirements, but it is calculated that at least 5,000 persons. will need shelter for weeks to come, and it is proposed to erect huts on public grounds for the accommedation of those for whom tents will not suflice.
