BA8ZARD’S GAZETTE. g___-- ---—,:‘'i:. ;.T—‘ Wednesday. September 24, 1856. We beg to call the attention of our readers to the Soiree in honor of the inauguration of the Charlottetown Model and Normal school which takes place on Wednesday the let Octo- ber next. As this is an epoch in the history of educational progress, we have no doubt but that it will be duly honored by a numerous at- tendance, and we trust that in after times the event will be held in remembrance as contine- raorative of the commenbement of a rest im- provement in the morale as well as knowledge of the masses. Tns Bitrrisu Mains were received here yester- day by the Lady Le orcharit. The only strik- ing itetns of news, are the insurrection in Swit- aerland and an intimation of a coolness between England and France though we believe, no- thing ofa serious nature has taken place. An Editorial article on the Cor oration weigbin machine has been unavoidab y defer- red unti our next issue. St-iiursii nrrwsxit Banaous AND Siisnuc.— Our readers will notice, that the Rosebud is to run on this route for the remainder of ‘the sea- son. We should think that this would be a cat accommodation to passengers, and we ope it will prove remunerative to the owner. His Excellency Sir Gas rd Le Merchant Governor of Nova Scotia is ex ected to visit this Island at an early day, the ictou Cronicle, says.—“ I9 is expected to leave Halifax on Friday on board the steamer Basilisk, and to- oall at Guysboro, Antigonisbe, Piotou, Char- lottetown, gut ofCanso, Aricbat, and St. Peters, and thence by the steamer Banshee through the Bras D'0r to Baddeck and Sydney, from which lace he will probably arrive on Sunday even- ing next, and remain until Monday afternoon." The Rev. (‘neerge Walker of New Glasgow, N. S. will preach in the Temperance Hall. at eleven o'clock A. M. and at 3 o'clock, P. M., on Sabbath the 28th instant. To run Eotroii or IItsz.tito‘s Gazitrrs. IR,—ln your paper of the 13th inst , there ap- peared a lengthy comiiiunicalion, signed “\|'in. Company, er. Wellingtoti Nrlson," purporting to be a report ofii case tried in the \Iayor‘s Cflllll. between the Gas company and myself. It is ritit my intention to carry on a discussion in the newspapers with Mr. ur liy, or to argue the iiieritti of the case tiow pen ing between myself and the Gas Coinpaiiy; front and in due time, the case will be tried before the Judges of the Supreme Court. I cannot. however. refrain from expressing iriy surprise, that It Servurtl of the Gas Company should have the insoleuce and presumption to make my name, and the private and domestic concerns of my household, the subject of advertisement in the public newspapers. Several of Mr. IIurphy's statements are untrue. and it is very difiicult to believe, that he could be ignorant oftheir being so. What, I would ask.does it concern your readers, to know the hour at which [retire to rest, or the nutnber of Bulls given at my house in the course of the year? If Mr. Murphy be merely a human being, and not the iticarnation of some distorted evil spirit, possessed ofthe power of transporting litto- self unliesrd and unseen into people's houses at all hours of the ni ht. it is quite impossible that he should know at what hour the coitsuiiiers of gas retire to rest, the number ofbuiners they light. and the hour at which they are lighted and extinguished. It is, in my opinion, desirable, that the consumers of as (very many of whom are dissatisfied with the bills rendered them by Mr. Murphy), should repre- sent to the directors, the expediency of employing as Manager, a person whose interests in the Stock of Company is such, as not to form an inducement for him to wrong the consumers for the purpose ofadvsnc- ing his personal pecuniary interests. atii, Sir, Your obed't Servant, WEl.l.ING'I‘()N NELSON.
