By Gulrdialfs Spaslril Wire) HALIFAX. May 18 - "Far too much enthusiasm has been shown in Nova Bootle for ‘gat rich quick ideas' in gold mining." Professor G. V. Douglas. NLC., M.Bo., ll.G.S. of the Department of Geology at Dalhousie University declared hare today. Prof. Douglas said he held no brief for"'flashy little mines that soon petered out." he said in an address before a service club. 'Mon- ey is made in finding a consistent body of gold in a mass of ore that ensures consistent operation, month after month," the geologist assert- ed. I Prospects for gold mining in No- va Scotia were bright ifhandlsd correctly. he believed. "You have here a. number uf deposits that. will pay. But they need guidance," Prof. Douglas declared. ' The Professor added a word of criticism: "ln the past you have had too many ‘straw bosses' com- ing down fnnm the north country! Instead, what were needed, he claimed, were qualified mining men acquainted with the physical chu- acterlstics of the province and the nature oi its sold mining. It was his opinion that the price of gold would not rise much more, because of this belief, he said ho was "definitely against opening up of mines on exaggerated ideas oi gold values." HUGH NIOHQLSON Qn Thursday, April 5th, Mr. Hugh Nichol-sen. a very hishly esteemed resident of Glen Valley, passed gsceiully away in the Prince ounty _l-lospital, Burnmerside, at. the age of GZ years. The deceased had been in a poor condition of health the greater part of the winter and had been in the Prince County Hos- pital the most of that time. When Mr. Nicholson entered the Hospital, it was hoped that his case was not st all serious. But as time went on it became evident that re- covery was impossible. All that medical skill and kind friends could do was dana, but all to no avail. On the above mentioned date his gentle spirit. winged its hesvenward flight. Besides a sorrowlrlg widow. thalia- ceased leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, three Ions and two daughters. The sons ara: John D. Nicholson, Dryden, Ontario; Norman Nicholson, C. N. Railway, Charlottetown, and Wilfred Nichol- son, at home and the daughters are Mrs. Donald McDonald, Brookfield, and Mrs. Hedley McPherson, Glen Valley. Mr. Nicholson was the san of Mr. and Mrs. _Angus Nicholson. who came out from Scotland quite a tow years ago. In their family there were seven brothers and four sisters. The brothers who survive Mr. Nich- olson now deceased are Angus Nich- olson. Western canada; Daniel Nicholson. Boston; James Nicholson. Mmtsina. and Alexander biloholson. Wisconsin. Two other brothcrs, John Nicholson and William Nichol- son Paired away some years eso- John had reached the ssc ot 30 years and William the age of 16 years. The four sisters are Mrs. Flour McLeod. sydney. N,-S.; Mrs- Maicolm Buchanan, llrsdalbsna; Mrs. Isaac Sharp, Pleasant Valley, and ms. Norman McPherson, Mim- tasue. Two of their sisters predeceased their brother _Hugh by a number oi years, namely, Mrs. Issac Sha;/in and Mrs. Normpn M_cPl1srson. r. Nicholson was a man who was quite widely and favorably known. Having travelled considerably throughout Canada and the United States, he had made a large number of friends. Some twenty-five years ago he be- came ii member of the Canadian Order of Forresters and he has been a member of the Orange Qrder since his early manhood years. In both ni these orders he was held in high es- teem by his many brethren. They and all others who came to lmow him will henceforth miss his genial presence. But while many in the outside world will miss him it ls lr: the home that his loss will be fell most keenly, With his bright and cheerful manner, he there made life pleasant for all. In his absence his loved ones will spend many lonely hours. While in the hospital his suffering which at times was very intense, was borne ln a spirit of heroic calmness. 1-lc did not mur- mur nor complain. For some time previous he rsellzed that the end could not be far away. And yet in the face of all of the odds against him, he remained calm and unmov- ed. Hs knew “ln Whom he had believed and he was persuaded that Hs was able to keep what He had committed to His trust against that day." His passing was one of sweet P63412. The funeral, which was a very large one was held on the afternoon of Saturday. April 'lt.h. The service was conducted by Rev. J. R.. Wallis. assisted by Rav. R.. Hensley Stavert. A duette entitled "Does Jesus Dare". was very beautifully rendered by Rav. and Mrs. J. R. Wallis. The floral tributes were very fine indeed, and consisted of the follow: ing: Pillow, the family: wreath, Mrs, Flora McLeod and family; crescent, C. N. Railway Office staff; potted plant, Mrs. Ben). Bhnrp and Mrs. Jessie Sherman. and just here lt. would be flttins to add that these Inst two mentioned ladies were very kind indeed to Mr. Nicholson during his illness. Mrs. Nicholson and fam- ily are very grateful to them for their great kindness. The pall bearers were: Messrs. Dougald MoPhel’&0ll. Btirllnl Mc- Lean. Chas. Maltensle.
