Summerside. on Tues- day. night presided over by Mayor Henry Wedge to discuss I report which had been made by Mr. F. R. MacKinnon. director of child welfare for the Province of Nova Scoiia who had conducted a sur- vey of the City of Charlottetown and the Province generally in regard to child welfare work. in Charlottetown on Monday night at a meeting of the Children's Aid Society and was reported in Tues- day's Guardian. One of the re- commendation: was that a Com- munity and Children's Aid So- ciety of Prince Edward Island be established which should be com- posed of two main committees lo- cated in Charlottetown and Sum- merside. The meeting approved the idea of setting up a planning com- mittee in Summerside to be com- posed of five men and five wo- men which would work with a group from Charlottetown to- wards this objective. A nominat- ing committee composed of Mrs. Robert Palmer, Mr. J. Lorne Dris- coil and ML. J. Lloyd Gorrill was set up to name this committee. They plan to meet shortly for this purpose. There was a great deal of discussion on the need for organized child welfare work in Summerside and many pitiable cases which were known to some of those present were discussed. It was the feeling of the meeting that if the general public was aware of the great need for some- thing to be done in this regard there would be general support for the movement and financial contributions would be forth- coming. Those aware of the situation stated that in Summerside there is a serious need of organized social welfare work and that a great many children are being brought up with little chance of becoming useful citizens. Mr. MacKinnon's report we read to the meeting in his absence by his assistant, Mr. George Hart. Among those present who took part in the discussion were Ma- jor Alan Nicholson. J. R.
