It is understood that Mrs. Wilmot leaves $200 each to her eighteen nieces, $100 to her nephew, son of Dr. Lewis, and $8,000 to charities, principally in New Brunswick. Edward Wilmot, half brother of the late judge, is said to be the sole executor. oo BURGLARS ON THE Move.—An attempt was made to break into Sentner’s grocery store, corner of Grafton and Cumberland streets, at an early hour on Sunday morning. The matter was decided by Sir Adolph Caron to-day. The Colonel will not, however, retire from com- mand of the corps for about three months, when his successor will be aamed. The object of this move is to get the depart- ment out of the necessity of establishing a dangerous precedent in allo«ing officers to force their Colonel out of command by re- signing in a body. A Narrow Escape. Niacara Fauts, N. Y., Sept. 16. Charies Perry, who went through the whirlpool rapids on August 28th, 1887, in a life boat, attempted the same feat this afternoon. The boat passed the whirlpou! rapids and out of the whirlpool safely, but when about half a mile below the whirl- poul the waves dashed in the manhole door, forcing him out into the boat. Being thrown overboard he swam through the dangerous fapids to Lewiston, a distance of three miles, where fishermen picked him up in an exhausted condition. Irish News. Dusty, Sept. 15. Eighteen families in Clare Island avoid- ed eviction by paying the rent. Five families were evicted. A large meeting was held in Phoenix Park to-day to protest against the imprison- ment of Thomas Maroney, in jail over a year anda half for refusing to testify in the case of Herbert Stain’s tenants. Lord Mayor O’Brien and other prominent Nationalists addressed the meeting. Sev- eral reporters were present. Opening Delayed. River pu Lovupg, Sept. 16.
