Travel- lers by rail will have it in sight for nearly three quarters of a mile. and, as the farm slopes toward the rail- way, nearly its whole ares. will be Vi¢>\D16 "Om that quarter. There will also 'oe a good view for nearly half a mile on the Deblois Road, and _from a longer extent of the Mount Edward Road. The site is at present occupied by hall u dozen different lots on which options have been obtained. The rcsidsnce of Judge Fitzgerald, with adjoining grounds on the Mount Ed- ward Road, covering about tive acres, will 'ne retained by him. The central part of the Farm, comprising nearly one hall of the whole, is made up of tho estate of the late Hon. J. C. Pope and known as Ravenwood. The rimldence thereon, the main portion of which is in good preservation, will be repaired and in part remodeled. -Here Superintendent Clark will re- side and also have his office. It is understood to be the intention to enclose the entire farm with a sub- stantial fence, and to remove the di- vision fences, which would be neither useful nor ornamental if retained. The farm will be devoted to experi- ments, with cereal grains and gras ses, roots and vegetables, orchard -ind small fruits to determine the S€l.llll ll V _ THB EXPERIMENTAL FARM FOR PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND. The ol‘l‘lcia'l retail will include the Superintendent, a Foreman and such working men as may at different seasons be re- quired. We believe the Experimental Farm will prove of great interest: and value to the farmers of this-Province. It is very convenient of access, of sufficient size, has a variety of good soils and is in many ways as desir- able a site as could have been select.- ed. We believe that Superintendent Clark, who is a scientlhcally educat- ed as well as apractical farmer, wiil in due time make the Farm some- thing to be proud of. But there wi-ll be a lot of planning and work to be done belore it can be brought into such symmetry and beauty as charac- terise some of the other. model and experimental stations in different _parts of the Dominion. [luring the sitting ol the Imperial Press Conference the question of chea- 'ier cable rates was much discussed ind the Pacific Cable Company an- nounced its intention of cutting its press rates in two on first August. it was hoped that this would have wrought about a corresponding re- duction in Atlantic cable rates. Now s announced by the companies concerned that nn reduction will l-e made. The Marconi Company is 'doing ri limited business in press ;|nez-usages across the Atlantic .it half the cable rates. but the mnd telegraph companies connecting mr c lull commercial rates on :rl ig l lihesc press messages. It is a good deal like our three short; haul rates in freight transpontation. The wire- less message crosses the Atlantic cheaply, but pays twice as much lor land transportation ah each: end as the cable message pays. This makeu out a strong case for an a‘ll- British cable and land service under gov\arn»nent control across the Atlan- tic and Canada. Possibly, as Mr. Marcori hopes, the wireless service across the Atlantic will soon be de- veloped to an extent, that ivill enable it to transport the full volume of press rrcssages. and also to trans- mit thmi to their destinations on lland. g _on_n.`.-"oth ana`1otn'.TSEE£embFr next thc Nova; Scotia Press Associa- ‘rnm win meer in Amherst and the iNew Brunswick Press Association will, meet in the nearh5" i»°“'“ Ol Sackville.
