has secured the steamer Muigrnve and

Ir was noted some time ago that F. \V.
Hyndman, of this city, had been awarded
the Canada General Service Medal for
his servlets in Her' Mejesty’s ship Duncan
at the time oi! _the Feninn raid in 1886..
The Guardian reporter called upon Mr.,
Hyndmsn yesterday and was shown the
medal which is issued from the Royal
Mint. On one side is the bust of her late
Majesty, and around the margin the
words “Victoria Regina et Imperetrix."
On the reverse side is the Canadian flag
surrounded by a wreath of maple leaves
and round the edge is Mr. Hyndmans
nam' , rank and ship then serving in. Oi
the clasp are the words “Fontan Raid
i866 " The ribbon is red, white, red. It is
believed this is the only medal ofthe
kind held in this Province and probably
in Canada, being for naval services. ‘ Mr.
Hyndman entered the service in 1858 and
retired in 1870 under the Chllder’s scheme
of retirement. During his term oi service
Mr. Hyndman took part in many events
which are now considered of great historic
from the lot. . ‘ " -

Sir George Nates in making n complete
survey of that canal from Port Said to
Suez, and had the distinction of paying
in his ofllcisl capacity the first toll levied
in that great highway to the East. Since
