The match was fired st 300 yards without slings and only forty seconds were allow- ed for the competitors to fire ten rounds. Competing as our team did against the best regiments in Canada they certainly showed a high standard of marksmanship. Another team of ours placed ser- und among teams in the Macdon aids Brier Match and tied for seventh place in the Coates Match. Capt. Roy McCabs plac- ed fourth in the final stage of the Governor General‘: and also placed 16th in the Bisley Aggre- gate. Major A. l". Gormley was 21st. and Capt. James Coles 30th. Both cspt. Roy McCabe and Major A F. Gormley were placed on this year's Bisley team to compete in Britain but Major Gormley. who was a member of the Bisley team last year, can- not make the trip. This Province was also worthily recognized by the appointment of Brig. W. w. Reid, DS.O., E.D., as Command- ant of this year's Blsley Team. Brig. Reid has taken a very ac- tivs part in encouraging rllle shooting in the 17th Reece and has also assisted in every way to make our Provincial rifle matches a success. Our best wishes go with him and the team under his com- mend. The shoot-off ‘for the perman- ent possesslon of the President's Cup, donated by the late Lt-Col. H. M. Davison. V. D. which had been held over since i938. was fired August 24th. st the 200, 500, 600 yards. Sgt. G. G. MacLennsn won with 97 points out o! a pos- sible 106. Lt. col. John Andrew, Cpl. P. J. Landrigan and Major A. W Allen all finished with scores of no points. The other two participants. Lt. P. T. Hooper and Sgt. Roy Coles had scores of 05 and 92 respectively. ‘The condi- tions laid down for the trophy were that it would be held by the winner of the Grand Aggregate each year for ten years and after that a shoot-off would decide its permanent possession. The only eligible contestant missing was m. A. MacDonald. formerly of Sum- mefslde. now located in western Canada. During the fall three spoon shoots were arranged with four sterling silver spoons as prizes. There was a good turnout of mem- bers at each shoot and this fea- ture should be continued in pre- paration for the Inter-Maritime match this season. An interesting happening was the winning of the Dominion Rifle Championship for the Rpygl ca. nadlan Mounted Police by cpl. w. M.
