'i'i'ce The Annual Christmas Tree party of the Social Service Department of the Charlottetown Hospital was held Friday afternoon at the Nurses’ Home. The beautifully illuminated and decorated tree stood in the cen- tre of ‘the study hull surrounded by tables piled with gifts of usefu! clothing and Christmas stockings containing fruit, candy and nuts. Santa Claus with flowing beard and jlngling bclls happily greeted each child, presenting them with a well filled stocking. A pleasing feature of the entertainment was a Scottish dance by ‘Miss Georgina ‘Trainer, charming young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Trainer, West Roy- alty, accompanicci by Mrs. Anthony Haughey on the violin and Rev. Dr. Bernard Gillis at the piano. These musicians provided splendid music throughout the afternoon, adding much to the gulety of the occasion. Rt. Rev. Mgr. Maurice MacDonald was also present as were other well wishers and friends of the Social Service. The Social Workers were assisted in their pleasant task by Mrs. Luc- ius Kelly, nee Ethel Murphy, who was the first social worker in the Department. The music of the day was under the compel/ant charge of M15. G. Elliott Full. St. Peter's Cathedral At 11.45 on Christmas Eve the central act of worship of the Angli- can Church was celebrated in Si. Peter's cathedral. The Rev. Canon Malone was celebrant and was as- sisted by tlie Rev. Dr. Hunt. The albar and choral were brightly lighted and the vestments of the Clergy and altar hangngs were in keeping with the great Plestival of the Nativity. There was a. large congregation present, nearly all of which made their Christmas Com- munion. During the the choir sang Christmas hymnsl which added much to the beauty of this incst solemn service of the ‘The 11.00 o'clock service was fully choral when the Rev. Dr. Hunt the Rev. Dr. Hunt preached a splen- dd and instrhctve sermon in keep- ing with Christmas. The speaker pointed out how hope revived in the ancient worldvwith the coming of Jesus. The ancient religions and philosophic systems had failed to bring comfort or peace to man. He compared conditions in_ the old world with present day conditions. and pointed out that the good tidings to the old world are also good news for those who have present day sorrows and problems. The anthem sung at the mon.- ing service was "O Come to My Heart, Lord Jesus," with Mr Har- vey MacPherson as soloist. The carol "O l-lail Thou Blessed Jesu" was also sung.
