5th Annual Meeting Retail Merchants Ass'n -The fifth annual meeting of the Retail Merchants Association of Prince Edward Island was held yesterday afternoon in the Sum- merside Baptist Churclr hall. The president, Mr. P. M. Mccaull. pre- sided and in his opening remarks he said it had been a pleasure to serve the association as president during the past year. He had re- ceived line support in the perfor- mance of his duties and he was glad to note that the association had made good progress. The ii- nances were in good condition and numerically the organization had grown in a sratiivins way. Mr. Mccaull. in his presidential report. extended a welcome to the members. Aid and new. He stressed me importance of giving full sup- port to the suppliers. making prompt payment of accounts to them which would make it pos- sible. he said for the suppliers to carry on comfortably with the smau margin of profit under which they operate. "This association is growing." he said. "and the time is coming when we will ask for a voice in govern- ment regulations regarding mat- ters concerning our organization." WATCH DOG He pointed out that the R.M.A. is a watch dog to guard against improper practises in the retail business. In conclusion. Mr. Mccaull said, ”I think our meeting here today will be conclusive of good and when our deliberations are ended we will be glad that we were here." The president suggested that, for the future. a standing committee on resolutions be appointed so that sufficient time would he It. their disposal to formulaic resolu- tions from time. to time during the year. regardinil matters of dir- ect concern to the members of the association and these would .then he in readiness for submission and discussion at the annual meeting. It was decided that the resolu- tions committee be composed of three members from the board of directors. Reports of the various commit- tees submitted were as follows. purchasing and piihlicity. J. F. Jenkins: sub purchasing commitee. W. G. Ellis: transportation. Albert Noonen: membership. H. E. Phil- lips. Considerable discussion took place on the advisability of om- sale each month or two sales each month.
