Montreal. a member of the same Gordon family from the Aiberton district of P. E. I. Some history of these men might well be written for this present generation. Rev. George Gordon studied at Pine Hill and while a student there founded the North End Mission. He was later appointed as a missionary to Erromaiiga, in the New Hebrides and landed there with his wife in 1857. Disease Iravished the population of that island for two years after Mr. Gordonis arrival. and as a re- suit. the natives were disillusion- ed, attributing the diseases to their picious. He walked more hurriedly but soon a savage raised his hand to strike him. Near a halt fallen tree another struck him with an axe. Still he struggled forward. Another blow from an axe was re- ceived on the palm of his hand. As he rushed up the path. panting, and weak from loss of blood, Uhu- viii swung his axe and plunged it into the victim's neck. This May 20th, 1861. was a dark day in the mission work of that place. but death did not end the work of these two loyal Christ- ians. When the news of the death of Gordon and his wife reached. their home. Gordon's brother James at once volunteered Io take up the work of his brother. He sailed from Halifax on Nov. 7. 1864, and met a martyr's death on March 7, 1872.
