When we look at the benefits that have come to Miscouch and other places as a result of the i airport being established here I cannot con- ceive of anyone being‘ so un- grateful as to fail to support Mr. MacNaught. The airport WBJS re- activated by “J. Watson Mac- Naught after the war when it had been decided to cl/ose it down along with 91 other air- ports l across Canada. However, Mr. MacNaught who during his 12 years of office, was known as one of the best parliamentarians on Parliament Hill, worked capably and unceasiingly to keep the airport‘ here. This has meant many millions of dollars for this section." PEARSON PLAN Dr. Grant went on to explain someof the pearls of the Pear- son Plan instancing inparticular the benefits in education, sick- ness, insurance, whereby work- ers would be paid unemployment insurance while sick, th Development Bank, (1 iciency . payment and other items. “One of the most exciting things about the Pearson plan and perhaps the greatest thing that has ever come to Canada is the fact that new every student in this coun- try may go to college without financial worries. “Those of us who had to strug- gle to get enough money to get an education hail this as one of the greatest boons to education since Confederation. Now there are no financial barriers, and all that is needed to get a good education is a desire to succeed and a willingness to study. No such plan _was ever thought of in Canada before, or any other country.” .. In addressing the meeting Mr. MacNaught the Liberal candi- date in Prince County said, “No one can convince me that March is a good, time to call an elec- tion. Any of the other eleven months would have been better and this makes one wonder that “John Diefenbaker is afraid of when he puts our people to such discomfort and inconvenience by asking them to vote at this time.” . “The real fundamental rea- son for this election is that Die- fenbaker is frightened that the people will become aware of the Farm. 3 IN . It will be a most difficult time to get electors to the poll Mr. MacNaught stated that, “If we can get out the Liberal vote we will be success- ful on Monday next. I am -sure that with proper organization the Liberals of this county can be quite‘ as successful as in 1953. Mr. 'MacNaught said that he felt flattered_that the Conserva- tive talk so much about Fisher- man’s Unemployment Insurance. “For the ten years that I was Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Fisheries we worked unceas-ingly to bring about this plan and the Tories must think it is good because they are continually talking about it.” " “The Tories are basing the election of their candidate on weak grounds. They listed ‘ as new projects, items which are practically all of a routine na- ture. Tory strategists must be hard put for material when they base _their campaign on false promises. During the -22 years of Liberal rule, we had unpr cdent- ed prosperity and it too the -conservatives only eight months to bring us to a financial posi- tion ,bordering on Hecononiic chaos. " " ’ "' ’ Mr. MacNaught quoted Mr. Caldwell as saying that only 10 percent of the Diefenbaker pub- he works program could. be -carried out at present. In con- trast to this, the Pearson.plan would release 500 million .dol- lars of spenidable income which would create jobs and the spactre or unemployment would vanish from thisland. » Other speeches were given by A.
