imperialist-fascist con 'f ulation as dishonest intell-_ ectuals who will spend their lives confusing these basic' facts of life and rending it impossible to understand an thing, to believe in any- thing and to encomplish any- thing worthwhile in life -- i.e. to have any contribu- tion whatsoever to the cause of humanity. If you have no principles and become an ex- pert at debaying points, then you are a good instrument for the imperialists who use the Hitlerite logic that if you repeat a lie often enough, then the masses of people will believe it. Itis because in my exam I refused to compromise on the ‘question of principle and re- fused to slander the People's Republic of China tht the ’ professor failed me. All the other students in the class should look into this matter closely and resolutely opp- ose this misuse of their education. We have come to p university to seek truth a from facts to serve the peo- ple. However, day after day we are confronted with the reality'of the imperialist university in which we are given the ultimatum -- eit- her we prostitute ourselves in the service of imperialism and become thoroughly dis- honest intellectuals . or else we are all failed. When I went to the professor after I receivedgmy grade and asked him why I got such a low gr; ade (in my exam I thoroughly denounced the question, ref- used to slander People's China and explained China's socialist foreign policy — I received 29 points out of the 69x alloted points for this question) he answered that it was because I did net answer Rifle QUGSCJJBIH I asked him if this was the case why I did not receive a zero. He told me that he ' never gives anyone beloe this grade because then they cannot catch up their grade in subsequent examinations & papers. This means that the grade I and another student received for refusing to an- swer the question is in effect a zero and that the act of giving us 29 points is Just a further trick for himself 'to get off the hook. When he was confronted by the stu- *dents in the d class as to why he asked such a treacher- .ous exam question, he replied that he asked the question in order that the students not leave with 'a one-sided. view of the People's Republic of China". When it was ex- posed that he always gave the same anti-China View year in and year out, he Simply re- plied that he was the profes- sor and has the right to do this and that these are the, rules. As more and more stu- dents in the class came for- ward to protest against the examination question, then professor flippantly answered in; THE CADRE, TUES., APRIL 9, 1971; Page 11 that he in fact aSKed the question to provoke all this great discussion that was going on in the class as a result of it and that he sho- uld in fact be praised for asking it. To which one stu- dent replied that he had the same logic as the imperialists who presumably go into coun— tries to plunder the people in order to provoke the peeple to rise up against them. The fact that the students were enraged over a question of principle and that they will not be used to slander what is just and praise what is unjust is irrelevant to the professor. His view that he asked the question solely to provoke 'discussion' and r 'heated debate' shows the ex- tent of his arrogance and dis- regard for the interests of the students. It shows his determination to stick to his view that to uphold principle is both impossible and a sign of weakness whereas 'heated discussions are held for the fun of it' and 'debates are for intellectual eXercise' but that no knowledge can be sought to serve the people. I strongly protest against all attempts to make me a dishonest intellectual. I resolutely denounce the atte- mpt to have me utter slanders against the People's Repub- lic of China for the purpose of being used as an instrument of U.S. imperialist and Soviet J. . 51" '.. . I. tfl\~JEU. JE.J€.'LU + game social imperialist propaganda against the People's Republic of China. I demand that this examinat- ion be disqualified, that the professor be made to publicly apologize for attempting to use the students as instrum- ents to slander the People's Republic of China, that the professor desist from ever engaging in this type of ac- tivity again and that the Pol- itical Science Association set up a permanent committee to advise the future activit— ies of this professor and that in particular, it be insisted upon by the Political Science Association that all his ex- amination questions be super- vised by the department of political science and that on no occasion should he be all- owed to demand that the stu- dents answer questions which support imperialism and de- nounce the socialist countries, or rely on the use of the me- \thod of 'debate' and 'pure logic' to 'prove' arguments which are false and as such can be nothing but in the ser- vice of imperialism and all reaction. WE WILL NOT BE TRAINED AS DIS- HONEST INTELLECTUSLS! WE WILL NOT BE USED IN THE SERVICE OF IMPERIALISME!
