Suh- ject “Bread-making" by Mrs. James Dunn, St. Elennor's. followed by a dis- cussion of the subject by the mem- bers. _ 'BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS. - The approaches to the steel bridge, Montague, are nearing completlon,the ones at the south end being done, and the north end nearly so. and it can- not be done too quickly. for the com- fort and convenience of the travelling public, who when it rains have to wade and slide at some points. lt will be a great improvement to the village when completed, and it is hop- ed that the different sidewalk com- mittees will take hold, and have the sidewalk extended on both sides, to the approach of the bridge, so that when the winter and spring slush comes. 'SPLENDID SUCCE8S.- The Patriotic Concert given iifrder the aus- pices of the Montague branch of the Women's Patriotic Association, in the Auditorium on Friday evening last, was a decided success. Lieutenant- Governor MacDonald presided in his usual pleasant and affable manner. The Rev. Dr. Fullerton gave a short address on "Patriotism," emphasizing the importance of the present phase of the European war. and Kitchener’s urgent call for more men. Lieut. Dawson, of the Island Infantry, fol- lowed with a practical appeal to the young men. The programme consist- ed of vocal and musical selections, in- terspersed with tsbleaux and panto- mlmes, in which much ingenuity was shown in the stage effects. About $100.00 was realized for “Red Cross Work.7' to assist in providing com- forts for the soldier boys at the front. Peter McDonald, the well known and popular young druggist of the' Two Macs were united in marriage Rev. Maurice McDonald performed the 'cei-emony, the choir of.Notre Dame ‘Convent rendering appropriate music. The bride was prettily attired in a becoming costume of Belgian blue and wore a black -hat with pink trimmings. She was given away by her father. Mr. Edward Halloran, while her sis- ter'Miss Norene, was the bridesmaid and Mr. Frank Hennessey, did the hon- _ors of best man. The happy couple left on a wedding trip to Boston and New York and upon their return they will make their home in the new house recently built by Mr. McDonald on Rochford Street. McDonald, appeal from a decision of Mr Justice Haszurd, came up for argument. At noon the Court adjourned in consequence of the funeral of the late Mr Crabbe. The Court meets again this morning at 11 o’clock. PATRIOTIC MEETINGS ARRANG- patrlotic meetings will be held to-night at Clifton and to-morrow night at Brookfield, to be addressed by Rev. Dr Fullcrton and Captain Campbell. On Monday a meeting will be held at Wheatley River, at which the speak- ers will bo Rev. Dr Fullerton and Lieut. Tannahili. On Tuesday Rev. Mr Fulton and Captain Campbell. will speak at Cornwall. and on Thursday next Rev. G. C. Taylor. Rev. Dr Fuller- ton and Lieut. Dawson will hold a. meeting at Bonshaw. At each meeting there will be local speakers as well, and interesting musical programmes will be submitted. PRESENTATION.-The three sec- tions of St. Peter's Bay congregation recently waited on Rev. and Mrs. J. M. McLeod in the newly-fitted up Manse, and presented them with con- gratulatory addresses, accompanied with a beautiful Silver Service from Marie, an elagant case of silver, inclu- ding knives, forks. spoons etc. from St. Peter’s, and a purse of money from Greeuwitch and gable Head. The ud- dresses from Maris was read on be- half of the congreegation by Rev. F. J. Coffin _who has been spending part of the summer in the congrega- tion and the presentation was made by Mrs. Jurson Webster and Mrs. Oe- wald Dlngwall. The presentation from Greenwicth and Cable Head was made by Mrs.J. K. Simons and Mrs; C. An- derson and the presentation from St. Peter’s by Mrs. Pope and others. All the i afternoon the big bell clanged. calling all and sundry to partake of the fare provided. The interior of the Market Hall was beautifully draped with red, white and blue hunting and patriotic flags, and the tables decorated with flowers.
