P. Mclsaac in the absence of departmental oilfi- ciials at Ottawa. At some shipping points, the re- port states. potatoes are actually selling below the support price. The U: S. support price advanc- ed automatically 20 cts. per hun- dlfed “Tight on December 1 and will advance another 20 cts. on January 1. From that time on- ward. through February and Nlarch. the U. S. support price E095 up 5 C13. per month. with no further advance after March. This means that the American produc- er will move very few potatoes un- til he secures the January advance. Locally the report notes "no life whatever in the potato mar- ket. on either seed or tablestock." Sonic warehouse operators have been obliged to reduce their staffs materially. "We are satisfied from the ln- formation ive have." the report states. “that there are more po- tatoes on the Island today than we ever had in nur experience for the same period. notwithstanding the heavy movement we enjoyed up to the present both by \\'£1ii‘1‘ and rail. 10.000 Cars Unshl ppcd “As of December l. after allow- ing a million bushels for seed pur- poses. we have in the vicinity of 10.000 cars of potatoes yet to ship." 1t is expectcd. however. that by mid-January there \\'iii be l reasonably good drmnnd from the United States. This is contingent on the U. S. authorities placing no Mnbargogigainst Canadian oo- ‘latoes. A good demand is also anticipated from several foreign countries if their currency can be converted into Canadian dollars. Wi-th the quantity still remaining unshipped. it is highly desirable to keep a steady flow to the mar- kets when any demand occurs. Turnip Market Brisk I The turnip market continues as last reported. when it was stated there would be in the vicinity of six or seven hundred cars of good turnips remaining to be Shipped, There has been nn definite re. ply from the Government with respect to the proposed turnip marketing scheme or any indica- tion of their attitude towards pro- ducer control marketing boards. Assurance has been given, how- ever. that the matter is boing studied. Turnip prices to Ont:i:io grow- ers this wee-k have ranged around 75 to 80 ots. per bushel, delivered ‘to the waxing plant in the rough. There is a brisk demand. It is likely there will be some further research measures effected next year to control the turnip borer or root maggot which has played havoc in many turnip growing dis- tricts this year. The following arc the current market prices: Summerside and West Prince- Seed: Light movement ranging around 65c per bushel at ware- houses.
