were nearly overcome by smoke. The
first alarm was from the building of
the H. P. Juelg Piano company, 1206
G street northwest. It was from this
building that the women were rescued.
The firemen were still working on this
fire when another fire broke out in the
vicinity of Ninth street and Louisiana
avenue, the heart of the commission
house section. The fire there burned
fiercely, but by0o‘ciock was under con-

offices. A year nr more ago, twenty
dollars worth of stamps were stolen from
the,I. O; Il. advertising department and
no clue was ever obtained to the party
who committed the theft or, if there was,
nothing was ever done. Of late the
stamps have been missed at different.
