The esteemed Examiner claims
that Tm-: Gu.»\i<ni.\N has changed its
ground in regard to the filling of the
County Court vacancy in Queens.
The facts are that we have not
changed our position in any way, but
have given the news in regard to the
matter, just as we did in regard to
the (lovernoiship. The situation in
regard to both these oflices changed
from day today and THF. GUAizDiAN
was able, usually in advance of its
contemporaries, to keep the public
informed as to what was going on.
But to the record. The Examiner
now says :
A few weeks ago THE GUARDIAN
announced that it had strong reason to
believe that Judge Warburton would be
promoted to Queens County and Mr.
Blanchard made County Judge for
Kings County,-there was uct a word
about a “deal” at that time.
Behold now how plain a tale
shall put the Examiner down. On
Ma 23rd Tiis GUAnDiAN made the

l statement that without positive knew-
ledge we had strong reason to believe
that _the following appointment!
would preseut‘y be announced : Dr.
P. A. McIntyre,ex M. P. to be Lieut-
enant Governor; Hon. A. B. Warbur-
ton to be Judge of the County Court
of Queens and Mr. Stanislaus Blanch-
ard to be Judge of the County Court
of Kings. To this weaddpd:
R “These appointments_ and changes
,"will not meet with universal appro-
_,“bation. In fait there will he some
pretty “lively kicking over what is
thought “to be ‘a deal’ in judgeships."

THE GUARDIAN called attention to the
circulation of a petition in the New
London district the object of which
vas to further the interests of Judge
Warburton and Mr. Blanchard, and
we then expressed the opinion that
"when Judge Warburton becomes
aware of the doubtful - propriety of
this action of his former constituents
the petition will  withdrawn.”
The readers of THE GUAaDiAN have
not been left for a moment in` doubt
as to our attitude toward the proposed
deal, and the Examiner is absurdly
wrong in asserting' that ' we have
changed our position. What weight
Tm: GUARDIAN may have had in pre-
venting. the carrying out of the polioyi
which was first agreed upon it is not
for us to say. As a matter of fact _a
halt was alled at,Ottawa and a little
later the friends 'of the Attorney
General became very' hopeful of his
appointment. This was announced
at the time as an item of news.

made it clear at least that- certain
things ought not to be done.

The strong resolution adopted and
placed on record by the Summerside
Methodist District as published in
yesterday’s GUARDIAN speaks for it-
self. The clergymen and laymen pre-
sent at the meeting, who joined in the
descussion and in the adoption of the
resolution will not be charged with
having been actuated by political
motives. They have doubtless simply
expressed their intelligent and con-
scientious convictions. lt is gratifying
to find that every word and line ex-
pressed in the _resolution of the Dis-
trict Meeting is in full accord with the
positi0n taken by this journal in re-
gard to the license question. \Ve have
the best of reasons for knowing that
the same view is taken by all such
churches and temperance organiza-
tions throughont the province as are
committed to the principle cf prohibi-
tion of the liquor traffic.
