lg. have referred to yourself as a Christian!!!! Christ- ianity is founded on the’ death of one man's opinion, he was not silent, he did not merely passively acc- ept. No Dianne, to foist the problem of your ina- bility to effectively lead \ the campus in the articu- lation of_student academic issues at this particular meeting, on my ability as a reporter is to be in . "bad faith", to be "magic- al"! Joel P.So When the minutes are available I think my view of the majority of the de- bate concerning the issues, I mentioned in my article, will be substantiated. Mr Editor, The response to my letter by Prof. Ken Butler has "diagnostic" significance. 1. On the whole, I found it rather amusing for a philosopher to counter my assertions with accusatio— gs of being "pernicious": especially because I had made it clear that I was UNIVERSITY or PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND in association with P.E.l. Much as I would like to avoid Freudian interpretaF tions, the temptation som- etimes is strong encugh to make me yield. With regard to the present case, I am reminded of the true story of an antievisisectionist who wrote to a physiologi- cal psychologist ( then working on the physiologim cal effect of electric Sh- ock on cats) declaring in the strongest language how he would personally love to disembowel.the scienti- st and torture him to a slow and painful deatho The moral! e the kind pro~ fessor was quite upset by my "dissection" of the ed- itor's philosophy while conveniently forgetting about all the editorial "disembowelment" ofrevery- thing under the system -- education, capitalism, Ch- ristianity, etc., etc. Oh well, that's fine- 23; my criticism is "peggigiggs". 2. On the psychological. It was still more amusing to see the analogy given by the professor between the books I reccommended as "cure" for a confused philosophy and organic di- sease—-medicine. The prof- essor questioned the "med- icine" (books)\I prescrib— ed for what he implicitly ’ admits to be a philosophi— cal "disease" on the grou— nd (note the logic)that the "medicine" was prepar- ed by those who did not have or produce the "dis— ease"!! . 3. On the philosophical. I quite agree that the proposition of Mr. Dalton I questioned may well be an instance of a mixed, hypothetical"conditional argument——but it's a bit 399 "mixed". Egg "hypothe— tical" and too "condition- » al" to be considered an argument!! « 4. On the whole — againo I do admit my "inability_ to penetrate beyond the linguistic and logical as- pects of....confused pre— sentations which attempt to express genuine (?!) philosophical preoccupa— tions." I certainly do not envy the professor or any— body else for possessing such "extraordinary" powe- rs. If you're O.K., I am O.K.I! 5. Comment on Prof. But— ler's philosophy of Faith, Belief and Knowledge. To quote George Orwell -— "you have to belong to the int- elligentsia to believe th- ings like that: no ordin— ary person could be such a' _fool!" Sincerely, M.M. Rahman — Dept. 6f Psychology / Dear Sir: The last two issues of t the Cadre carried issues relating to-the removal of pews from the university chapel° Perhaps it is'tfine to offer a comment through the Cadre on the case of the missing pews. During the past three years, the University of Prince Edward Island Chap- laincy has made proposals regarding changes in pre— sent worship facilities. These suggestions were ma- de with a view to provid- ing more suitable facili- ties of a multi-purpose nature so as better to se-~ rve the total University community. The removal of the pews & their replacement by a go- od grade of stacking chair was one of the proposals. The present space is grea- tly limited by fixed pew type seats while flexible space is more desireable° With the opportunity to sell the pews to a local church arriving with plans to relocate music people on this campus, prelimina- ry steps to renovations of Chapel facilities were un- dertaken by removing the, pewso ‘ It is important, perhaps, to state clearly that the Chapel is not being taken away. Chapel space and ~ facilities are being re— considered with a view to better allottment and app- ointment of space. Trusting the mystery has been somewhat unclouded into greater "knowing". sincerely YOurs, Rev. Gerard Tingley University Chaplain Rev.
