Free-For-All Keen Competition In Pace Is Feature Of Afternoon Three heat winners in the Free For All Pace featured the opening day of the Goodwin Races yester- day afterncon at the Provincial Exhibition Grounds. T-here were nine dashes in the opening day's card that was run off in fast. time before a crowd of about 1.000 people. Lock Hanover. A. G. Scott and Argot Pointer were the heat win- ners in the featured Free For All with the horses winning their das-hes in the above menti ned or- der. In the first heat A. G. Scott took over the lead from. Lock Hanover as they passed under the wire the first time around. As the field moved u-p the backstretch the horses went to their drives but it was not until the seven- eighth pole that Lock went to front. Argot Pointer and Miss Knox both came roaring down the stretch to challenge the front hor- ses and in the blanket finish the Hanover horse edged out the Pointer with Miss Knox third and the Scott stallion a foot behind for fourth place in the field of five. Billy McVey was fifth all the way. Ch-arlie Willis piloted Louis MacPlhee's Joandale to a straight - heat win in the first division of the Class-ified Trot. winning both heats rather handily, 1n the first dash of the race Winnie's Last waged a terrific duel with the black mare right down the stretch with Blaze Dillon th-ird and Miss lud-y Dale fourth. The remainder of the field was strung out behind the first four trotters. The second heat v33 I repetit- ion of the first in that Joandale had too much trot in her for the other nine trotte-rs.
