Short-term goals for the use of the money in- clude the creation of three part-time, paid manage- ment positions. Outgoing SU VP In- ternal Pauline Tran was de- lighted with the council’s decision to reinvest in the station. “I’m very, very happy,” she says. “It’s something that’s long overdue. It took three years to make this hap- pen.” Tran sees the new budget as “a huge commit- ment by council to support the radio station.” They have also been allotted space into the new SU building, in addition to the yearbook and the newspa- per. Tran commends this year’s management and volunteers for their work that has helped resurrect the station, and hopes that the momentum continues. “T think in the future, it'll take more work for the station to be more notice- able, as it [once] was on campus,” she says. She also credits this year’s councillors and ex- ecutive members for their “team effort” in increasing the funding. Although the recent windfall has CIMN propo- nents hopeful about the fu- ture of the station, they are still cautious. “This year’s gone well,” Gourley says. “But in previous years, there’s always been a threat [of funding cuts].” The Cadre ¢ 6 April 1999 UPEI Student Union smokes Barn’s fire insurance * Continued from page 3 ably be sued, along with the University.
