IIIIIIlMllI]IIES_ . MNIEN NISMISSEI] In Prince Edward Island, they have `ptohibition, not only of whiskey, but also of automobiles. This latter matter has been dis- cussed by almost every newspaper in Canada, and by some outside the Canadian circle. 'The -Island has thus received ai great deal of free advertizing, but not for the present of a valuable kiind, though some time in the not, distant future when. the Island changes its laws as to motor cars, that fact wil'l probably be just as widely noted, and so all the free ail- vertizing will enure to the benefit of the Garden of the Gull. ' Nearly every Canadian paper that one takes up contains at least a par- agraph about lfrince Edward Island a d automobiles. The situation ns it appears at present is full of in- teresting possibilities. The late Congressman, Goodwin, Republican, was elected in September last over Gould, Democrat, the sitt- ing member, by il plurality of only 709. Mr. Goodwin's victory was af- trlbuted to his personal popularity. ills long acquaintance with Republi- ban politics, and the prestige result- ing from his years of intimate assoc- iation with Thomas B. Reed. The September election was held while the truce between the Republi- cans and Progressives was in force. The Progressives had no candidate in the field, and those who desired to flock apart from the old parties had to choose between the Socilllist and ins Prohibition tiokois. In su ins minor parties threw less than 800 votes.
