Beagan Photos by Mike F. Beagan If you had a crappy time last Wednesday, February 28, then you did not go to Myron’s Cabaret to see the Arrogant Worms. A great time was had by all in attendance as Canada’s kings of independent musical comedy (in my opinion) put on an inspired and energetic show for an enthusiastic crowd of several hundred. Islanders are no strangers to The Arrogant Worms’ brand of vocal oriented comedy, as they have hosted UPEI’s Campus Comedy at the Barn for several years. They were obviously well remembered, as many in the crowd were singing along with The Worms more vintage songs, such as “Jesus’ Brother Bob” and “Goin’ Hunting”. The ninety minute set was well balanced with songs from The Worms’ three recordings. Frequent appeals for crowd participation kept the throng more excited than your average apathetic PEI crowd. During “Rippy the Gator”, the audience was encouraged to prey upon those who refused to participate in the “...stupid, repetitive action.” The five minute introduction to “Having Fun is Bad For You” featured vocalist/guitarist Mike McCormick and vocalist/bassist Chris Patterson running throughout the bar (and out into the street) while vocalist/jazz-hammer player Trevor Strong kept the anticipation level up from the stage. I laughed until my pancreas exploded! (Uhm. . . you had to be there.) During the intermission, I had the opportunity to accost the band members for a few comments. Trevor said “We miss playing at the Barn.” when I told him I was from UPEI. Chris wants to live in Charlottetown and is actually trying to get his parents to move to here from Scarborough, so “if there are any good sub-lets out there. “<< * The Arrogant Worms most recent independent CD, C'est Cheese, features the best and most humorous social and political commentary that I have heard since, well, the previous Worms album. “Kill the Dog Next Door”, “Sex, Drugs, and RRSPs”, and “Mounted Animal Nature Trail” -- the titles say it all. Ces ’t Cheese and the previous two albums were all hot commodities at the show, but if you missed it, i suggest emailing them at aworms@arrogant-worms.com to get copies for yourself, your friends, your grandmother, etc. This article is a biased abuse of editorial power.
