Dear Cadre: I am writing in regards to the article by Alec O'Hanley entitled "Silence Sounds Sweeter". I would just like to state that I could not find one point within the article that I disagreed with. It would not take much to penetrate the walls of the Magic 93 empire whose listeners include; Clothing Stores, liquor stores and people who listen for school cancella- tions and bus delays. Although it can be colder then a mothers in-laws kiss outside, UPEI is never cancelled so no one will be listening for cancellations, but student minded news and events would be much appreci- ated. Like Breaker's changing it's name to Velvet Underground or other important student news. It would seem to me that something like a cam- pus radio station would be a tremendous asset to the Wave and the UPEI student union in general. It could be used as a place for students to discuss issues and talk about current events that effect students and the school. It would also give the people who put up those promotional posters a break. Mind you I have seen some good posters in my day but radio may help to increase pro- motion. And why not throw on a panther game or two to increase interest in varsity. And maybe even a campus station would provide the student pop- ulation some music to drink to on Friday and Saturday nights. A campus station could play at the gym, the Wave, in dorm rooms, at browns court and with any luck Queens St. I can only dream of going to the gym and not hearing Kid Rocks song "Picture". The question of fund- ing of course comes in to play, but all is needed is a low band- width and some electricity, I am sure there would be more then enough people who would love to volunteer to head up some- thing to this extent. Then of course there is the question of how to get the student popula- tion to stop listening to Magic 93's super-mix? A super-mix of Phil Collins and Sting, which has taken Magic 93 years to perfect. It may be as easy as mixing some Jack Johnson with 50 cent, some Billy Talent with The Roots, Phish with Jimmy Swift, some Snoop Dogg with The Used, and scatter some top forty songs here and there (gotta get your Hillary Duff fix somehow). Imagine siting in your dorm room, or siting at browns court, or maybe even the upper part of Queen Street with all you best friends gath- ered around the warm radio lis- tening to great music. One can dream. Mark Boulter TTS a) Student Services Review The Student Services Review Committee is seeking input from the campus community as part of a Departmental review currently under way.
